10 Crore Worth Old 500 Notes Taken into Custody by Tilaknagar Police

After the call for demonetisation of 500 to 1000 rupee notes, there have been many instances of large amounts of cash in old denominations have taken place. Four days ago Bayside Journal reported the seizure of 80 lakh rupees in new 2000 rupee notes from Dadar East. On the evening of December 15, at around 8 pm, the Tilaknagar police on a tip off from a source recovered old 500 rupee notes worth Rs 10 Crores from a car at Chedda Nagar Junction in Ghatkopar. The cash and the three concerned persons have been taken to Tilaknagar police station for inquiry.

The persons taken into custody have said that the cash belongs to the Vaidyanath Urban Co-operative Bank. The manager and two more persons, who also claim to be employees of the same bank, of the Pimpri Chinchwad branch were transporting this cash to Pune from Ghatkopar branch. Rs 10 lakhs in new 2000 rupee notes has also been seized from the same car.

A police officer from the Tilaknagar Police Station said to Bayside Journal, “We have recovered Rs 10 crores from the car.” The Mumbai Police spokesperson DCP Ashok Dudhe said, “We are verifying their claims and will seek help from the income tax department.”
