“We are pleased to announce today the signing of the letter of offer and acceptance for the purchase of the F-15QA fighter jets, with an initial cost of $12 billion dollars,” said Qatari Defense Minister Khalid bin Mohammad Al Attiyah’s statement on Wednesday afternoon.
This deal comes on the back of US President Donald Trump’s accusations that Qatar funds terrorists.
Meshal Hamad AlThani, Qatari Ambassador to the US, tweeted this image of the deal signing.
The statement continued, “We believe that this agreement will propel Qatar’s ability to provide for its own security while also reducing the burden placed upon the United States military in conducting operations against violent extremism.”
The complete sale is worth over $20 billion. When the deal is complete, Qatar will receive a total of 36 US made F15s.
