Well, if Jaden Smith, the sixteen year old son of Will Smith (Fresh Prince of Bel-Air) and Jada Pinkett-Smith, is an example to go by, then you do whatever the hell you want!
The sixteen year old actor was recently spotted at music festival Coachella in an ensemble that screamed “music festival chic”, but in the most unconventional way possible.
Jaden, (maybe after a little light summer reading on “Must Have Items for Music Festivals”), decided to ditch the bucket hats, unflattering shorts, racist Native Indian headdresses and ethnic accessories like flower crowns and bindis (We’re glaring at you Justin Beiber/Vanessa Hudgens/Kylie Jenner/Selena Gomez!); and instead wore a summery Little Black Dress, paired with a white crocheted tank top and distressed denim shorts.
Boundary pushing? Edgy? Provocative, even? Maybe to some, but to Jaden, and indeed many kids of his generation, he’s just young and fashionable and refuses to ascribe gender to items of clothing.
Well, good for you Jaden! Good for you!
