It doesn’t matter how skeptical or religious one is but if one is thoughtful enough, you will be joining millions of people like you who are wondering “Has planet earth gone rogue?”

Catastrophes appear to have increases in intensity and frequency; Earthquakes, weather pattern altered religion, wars, politics and aggressive nature of man against himself. What is going on in this planet? Predictions of the earth’s demise have been in the increase in the recent years than at any other time in history. Authors have come up with articles that prophesy the end of the planet, others warn of the eminent destruction in the future, yet others are not shy of controversies and declare the planet is shutting down. One author narrates;

“…the god of earthquakes was Poseidon, the “earth shaker”. He was the brother to Zeus who was also brother of Hades. Poseidon was said to be surly, quarrelsome and acquisitive. Drawing lots on one historic day, Zeus win the sky, Hades the underworld, and Poseidon the sea. This left the earth the possession of no one…”  (Milne 2000)

Clearly it seems under Milne’s Greek hypothesis, no one is watching over planet earth, and it’s no wonder it’s turning rogue. Scientists have been kept busy by these changes trying to understand why and what could be done differently. But as recently seen in the last few years, there does not seem to be much that can be done to save this planet. The catastrophic events that are happening have increased in intensity, and although scientific equipment can track the events nothing has come even short of preventing them.

While planetoligists continue their study or planets and baptizing those cosmic bodies we see, none of them has ever come up with a proven theory of the existence of life in any other planet other than planet earth; A place where human kind can find a place of refuge when the worst happens. When we finally blow off this planet where will, if there will be, the survivors go?

Every year there seems to be something worse happening than had previously happened. In October 2005, Pakistan was hit with a 7.6 earthquake affecting over 40,000 victims. In 2004, the Sumatra-Andaman earthquake /tsunami measuring 9.3 affected or claimed over 275,000 lives. In August 1900, the Gulf of Mexico was hit with the world’s worst hurricane, Hurricane Galveston.  According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration The Atlantic storm season may be the most intense since 2005 when Hurricane Katrina landed.

There are many catastrophes that that pen and paper would not be sufficient to list them all, even the most destructive. But what about wars?  According to ABC news, the Afghan war is now the longest war in US ‘history (NAGORSKI 2010). This war started in 2002 and is still going on in 2010. In Iran senseless killing still continue. In Somalia there is a senseless war going on, in Kenya 2008 over 1500 people were killed over political elections with over 600,000 people being displaced, in Rwanda, over 500,000 people were killed for belonging to the wrong tribe, as recent as April 2010, in the US gulf Coast there is an environmental; war between US and BP, after BP’s deep water rig leaked millions of gallons into the sea and coastal wetlands threatening the wildlife’s habitat’s. As at the time of writing this article, the oil is still leaking, a real disaster!

How can we continue destroying the planet and get away it? Could this be the reason why the planet is fighting back? Spewing millions of oil in the gulf? Devastating earthquakes, hurricanes, and volcanoes all in one year?

In the bible Matthew 24, Jesus is sitting on the Mount of Olives when his disciples asked him what will happen towards the end and what the signs would be. In summary he said:

  • Watch out that no one deceives you.
  • Many people will come in my name, claiming, ‘I am the Christ,’ and will deceive many.
  • You  will hear of wars and rumors of wars,
  • Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom.
  • There will be famines and earthquakes in various places.
  • You will be handed over to be persecuted and put to death, and you will be hated by all nations because of me.
  • Many will turn away from the faith and will betray and hate each other,
  • Many false prophets will appear and deceive many people.
  • Because of the increase of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold,
  • The gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.
  • The Son of Man will appear in the sky, and all the nations of the earth will mourn. They will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of the sky, with power and great glory.

Could the things that are happening on earth today be prophetic announcing or playing to the prophetic words that Jesus told his disciples at the Mount of Olives? Could the earth be preparing itself for the second coming of the son of man? Could the earth be in readying itself for what was prophesied?

Whatever the case, I would not want to sit idle not knowing what’s going to happen. I will prepare myself with what I need to do, so that if today is the day that the earth winds itself up, I will be ready for the next life. I allow myself to believe that there is God, and there is a life after death. It’s a safer thought to behold than the contrary. I would rather hope for a heaven and miss it than not hoe from it and I succeed for hell.

If these are the last days of earth, it means that everything with form and life will too cone to an end and that includes you and me. More than anything else I choose to be ready. It will keep my sanity and give me a reason to carry on in spite of the earth’s transformation and naturals disasters that are happening and or waiting to happen.
