Reema Lagoo was was just 59 years old when she passed away today due to a sudden cardiac arrest in Mumbai. Lagoo was everyone’s favourite mother in Bollywood. She won four Filmfare Awards for Best Supporting Actress.
She was born Gurinder Bhadbhade. After her marriage to Marathi actor Vivek Lagoo, she changed her name to Reema.
Her mother was Mandakini Bhadbhade, a famous theatre artist.
She started her acting career on the stage in Marathi plays. She then moved on to television shows before acting in Hindi films in the late Eighties.
Her first ‘mother’ role was in Aamir Khan’s debut film, Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak, where she played Juhi Chawla’s mother.
She has played mother to Salman Khan in five films: Maine Pyar Kiya, Saajan, Hum Saath Saath Hai, Judwaa, and Patthar Ke Phool.
She starred opposite Supriya Pilgaonkar in the 90s sitcom Tu Tu Main Main. Her role as a bickering and competitive mother-in-law won her Best Actress in a Comic Role at 1st Indian Telly Awards.
Her last acting role was in the Star Plus television show Naamkaran as Dayavanti Mehta.
