In order to eradicate the problem of open defecation in Mumbai, Salman Khan’s NGO Being Human joined hands with Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Saturday, December 17, 2016, at the BMC headquarters. At the official event, BMC Commissioner Ajoy Mehta and the leader of the youth wing of Shiv Sena, Aditya Thackeray were present.

Addressing the media, Mehta said, “We always talk about cleanliness, but don’t put it into practice. Even after the Swach Bharat Abhiyan initiated by the Prime Minister on August 14, 2014, we still throw garbage on the road and defecate in the open.”  The Commissioner also said that the civic body was aware about the  problem of inadequate toilets in the city. “In order to solve this problem,” he informed, “Salman Khan has volunteered his help. We announce him the brand ambassador against open defecation in Mumbai before the end of 2017.”

Salman Khan, who also spoke to the media, said, “Most of us in Mumbai are fortunate enough to have this basic hygienic facility at home.  But there are many unfortunate people in the city who have no option but to defecate in the open.  Initially, I will make a donation for  five mobile toilets.”
