September 8, 2007 to January 5, 2017: How the World Has Changed Around MSD’s Captaincy

In case you were wondering why we took such a long time to come up with a piece regarding MS Dhoni stepping down as Indian skipper, the reason is mentioned in the headline.

Still confused regarding the dates?

For the uninitiated, September 8, 2007, was the last time MS Dhoni stepped on to the cricket field in Indian colours, not as the captain of the side.

It was the 7th ODI of the series between England and India at Lord’s. His contribution that day; 50 runs in 72 balls and one catch in a losing cause against the Three Lions.

Little would Dhoni have known that day of what was to follow over the next decade. For in each of the 199 ODIs, and 72 T20Is that he appeared next, he was the indisputable captain of Team India.

So what all has changed between that autumn day in London and January 5, 2017, a day after Dhoni announced his decision to step down as the captain of the Indian cricket team? Bayside Journal gives you an insight:
