Pakistani T20 captain Shahid Afridi has been served a legal notice for saying he received more love from Indian fans as compared to back home in Pakistan. Afridi was accused of “committing treason” and “hurting sentiments” of Pakistanis, by Lahore based advocate Azhar Saddique.
Saddique also accused Afridi of “letting down Pakistan”. “God forbid if Pakistan loses match against India, Afridi keeping in view his ‘pro-India’ statement nobody here will forgive him ever,” he said. Pakistan Cricket Board ‘de facto’ Najam Sethi has also been served a legal notice by Saddique. He added, The PCB should investigate the role of Najam Sethi as he might have pushed Afridi to speak in favour of India. Sethi always advocates Indian cause,”
Afridi had said a press conference in Kolkata, “India mein humne humesha cricket enjoy kia, yahan ke logon se humein bahut pyar mila, itna pyar humein Pak mein bhi ni mila jitna yapan.” ( I’ve always enjoyed playing cricket in India and received a lot of love, even more than in Pakistan).
Even former captain Javed Miandad was angered by Afridi’s statements. “These cricketers should be ashamed of themselves for saying such a thing. Shame on you,” Miandad told ‘Aaj TV’. “The job of this team is to go and play well in India not make such unnecessary comments,” he said.
