Radiation from Mobile Phone
It is a well-known fact that microwave radiation is transmitted and received by mobile phones. But the energy transmitted from this source is significantly low in strength, say a million times lesser than that of X-ray. Thus, it can be easily understood that this radiation can do no harm to DNA, hence no direct power to cause cancer in cells.
Research shows that using the mobile phone may produce a certain amount of heat within the brain, but this is not more than 0.1°C; however, this does not contribute to any damage in brain cell as well, so no possibility to contribute to the occurrence of cancer. This effect does not damage DNA or does not have the ability to switch on cancerous genes.
The Danish study, the most popular study conducted till date focusing on the link to identify cancerous factors, assures that there is no identifiable link between cancer and usage of mobile phone. The study was conducted over 420,000 individuals. The study did not find any relevant factors contributing to the development of cancer even for those who are using cell phones for more than 10 years.
Interphone study, conducted by International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), affirms that there is no increased vulnerability of developing glioma and meningioma, two common types of brain cancer, associated with the usage of mobile phone, even for those individuals who are using mobiles phones for more than 10 years or longer.
However, most of the studies confirmed that there is no correlation between cancer and mobile usage; a few studies opposed and provided different research evidence. They claimed that the beam of radiofrequency energy may have the possibility to penetrate the outer region of brain cell which may, in turn, contribute to the development of cancers of head and neck, even causing leukemia or brain tumors.
Since 2000, UK government declared and implemented a set of terms and conditions aligned to International Safety Standards. This sets the limits on frequency usage by mobile phones. This measure, in practice, implements a high standard of safety margin in order to save its users from harm, even to those individuals who are hypersensitive to the radiofrequency vibration, like children, for example.
Countries like USA, UK, Australia, and Japan are continuously supporting advanced research in this era and new possibilities are yet to be found for newer evidence.
