If we didn’t start off today’s news with this, we would have to kick ourselves. On the National front, ISRO (Indian Space Research Organisation). Made us all so proud today.

104 Satellites, One ISRO

History was created at the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota at 9:28 a.m. on February 15, 2017. The PSLV C37 Rocket launched at 9:30 a.m. and a world record was created. ISRO successfully launched 104 satellites into the orbit making Russian Agency’s earlier record of 37 satellite launch look like child’s play. These 104 satellites are from six countries (one of which is India). The three satellites from India are the Carosat 2 series – the primary satellite and INS-1A and INS-1B are the other two.

Two Crores Spent on BKC Bus Lane, MMRDA To Now Take Them Off

In a classic case of wasting taxpayer’s money, the MMRDA (Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority) has decided to remove the dedicated bus lanes it had installed at BKC to make way for Metro’s construction. These barricades were put up in October 2015 and the initiative was supposed to replicated across Mumbai.

Man Killed Because He Refused to Dance

A 21-year-old man was killed by his 24-year-old friend for refusing to dance at a birthday party. The victim was hit on the head by a wooden plank during an argument and succumbed to his injuries.

Prisoner Bribes Navi Mumbai Cops with 40K for Booty Call with Wife

Ten policemen have been suspended after facilitating an undertrial’s conjugal meeting with his wife at a South Mumbai hotel. Hanumant Sadashiv Patil allegedly escaped from police custody at JJ Hospital but was actually at the hotel with his wife. He had bribed three cops who even stood guard outside Patil’s room and hotel!

Today’s World news comes from two extremes of the globe. One is the Sikh community in California, the second involves murder, Malaysians and North Koreans.

Californian Gurudwaras Take In Lake Oroville Evacuees

Heavy rains last week caused California’s Lake Oroville to overflow which meant 188,000 residents of nearby areas were affected and many had nowhere to go. Members of the Sikh Community in Northern California opened up their hearts and their gurudwaras to those who were in need of a place to stay. They offered food, shelter, medical aid and beds for those in need.

Malaysia Arrests Woman Suspected of Killing Kim Jong Nam

Malaysian police have arrested a woman carrying Vietnamese documents under suspicion that she might be involved in the murder/assassination of Kim Jong Nam, the half-brother of North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un.

Today in History, we had an option to celebrate the birthday of a man who’s making us laugh since the 1980s or celebrate the life of one of India’s greatest poets who died today.

Usain Bolt, Simone Biles Win Laureus Sportsperson of the Year Award

Usain Bolt equaled another record as he won the Laureus Sportsperson of the Year Award for the fourth time while gymnast Simone Biles won the top honour in the women’s category. Bolt stands at 1.95 metres while Biles is just 1.45, but they are both giants today.

Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni both were trending on social media today because of pictures they uploaded on V-Day. While Virat’s pic proclaimed his love for Anushka Sharma, Dhoni was seen crawling on the ground with Ziva, his daughter.

Facebook Launching App For Watching Videos on TV

Facebook is soon launching an app that will enable its users to watch Facebook videos on smart TVs, the company said in a blogpost. A huge plus is that users can now scroll through their news feed on their phones and watch the video on TVs. Yay! Way to get more addicted.
