1. WAKE UP
Awaken and decide to have a good day; start with prayer! Realize the blessing of life that has been given to you.
Psalm 118:24 “This is the day the Lord has made; We will rejoice and be glad in it.”
2. DRESS UP
The best way to dress up is to put on the interests of others above your own and smile all day. These are inexpensive and will definitely improve your looks!
Philippians 2:3-4 “Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself. 4 Let each of you look out not only for his own interests but also for the interests of others.”
1 Samuel 16:7 “But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not look at his appearance or at his physical stature because I have refused him. For the Lord does not see as man sees; for man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.”
Romans 12:10 “Be kindly affectionate to one another with brotherly love, in honor giving preference to one another”
3. SHUT UP
I know! I would have scolded my kids for saying this so crudely; however, it is important to listen well and measure our words! Learn to strive to say positive things (this is not always possible, as truth is sometimes harsh). Remember that God gave us two ears and a single mouth, so He must have intended for us to do twice the listening as talking!
Proverbs 13:3 “He who guards his mouth preserves his life, But he who opens wide his lips shall have destruction.”
Proverbs 19:20 “Listen to counsel and receive instruction, That you may be wise in your latter days.”
Proverbs 20:19 “He who goes about as a talebearer reveals secrets; Therefore do not associate with one who flatters with his lips.”
James 1:19 “So then, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath”
4. STAND UP
This is something vital and missing from many of God’s children. Stand up for what you have put your trust in, what you believe! “Stand for something or you will fall for anything”, as the old saying goes. Conviction is a powerful sermon to those who do not know your hope!!!
Defend God’s word! Stand up for the order of the Body of Christ (elders – shepherds – all members doing their part)! Stand up for sound Bible classes, instead of psycho-babble or entertainment! This could be an inexhaustible list, but you get the picture, don’t you?
1 Corinthians 15:58 “Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord.”
1 Timothy 6:11-12 “But you, O man of God, flee these things and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, gentleness. 12 Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, to which you were also called and have confessed the good confession in the presence of many witnesses.”
1 Peter 3:15 “But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts, and always be ready to give a defense to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you, with meekness and fear”
5. LOOK UP
Trust is the foundation of the Christian’s life! It is made easier in the fact that God is righteous in all things and cannot lie. So look to the Lord, stay focused on your goal!
Romans 12:1-2 “I beseech you, therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. 2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.”
Colossians 3:1-2 “If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God. 2 Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth.”
1 John 2:29 “If you know that He is righteous, you know that everyone who practices righteousness is born of Him.”
6. REACH UP
Reach for something higher and greater each day. Just as the Disney character Jimmy Cricket used to sing, “High Hopes”, always try to grow each day! Grow your faith!
Hebrews 11:6 “But without faith, it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.”
Romans 10:17 “So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.”
2 Timothy 2:15 “Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.”
7. LIFT UP
Prayer is a staple for daily strength, improvement, patience, and longsuffering. Lift your prayers to God through Jesus Christ the King. Use your prayers as a reminder, anchor, and source of peace.
Philippians 4:6-7 “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; 7 and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”
1 Thessalonians 5:17 “pray without ceasing”
Note The origin of these seven–ups is not my handy work. It was an old bulletin that I had in my records, which also does not cite the first origins of these points. I have included my notes to the points for a better explanation, and have added God’s work to them for all of our benefits!
