Virat Kohli, Chris Gayle and Shane Watson– these are not the names you expect on a list of the worst-playing cricketers. But that’s the harsh truth in IPL 10. These cricketers have performed the worst so far in this year’s edition of the Indian Premier League.
1. Zaheer Khan (Bowler)
Zaheer Khan is one of the finest bowlers in the world and has played for India for a long time now and is now the skipper for Delhi Daredevils in this edition of the IPL. Zaheer has been in his worst form this season. He has bowled at an economy rate of 7.79 with an average of 31.30. His tally for the season stands at 10 wickets for 313 runs
2. Sheldon Jackson (Wicketkeeper-Batsman)
Sheldon Jackson has had a great domestic season and has been scoring good runs. Although, he has failed to display the same for his side, KKR in IPL season 10. He has played 4 matches and managed to score 38 runs altogether. He has batted with a strike rate of 122.58 and on an average of 19.00. He has failed to impress the franchise and the captain in this season of the IPL.
3. Marlon Samuels (All-Rounder)
Marlon Samuels used to open the batting for the teams he played for, but this year he was seen playing at number 6 or 7. It makes a big difference batting in the top order and lower order but Samuels has failed to play well no matter when he came in. He has played only 5 matches for Delhi and has scored just 29 runs with the bat. His bowling too hasn’t been that impressive; he has conceded 34 runs bowling at an economy at of 11.33.
4. Piyush Chawla (Bowler/All-Rounder)
Piyush Chawla is an experienced spinner in the Kolkata Knight Riders squad and has played a lot of international as well as domestic cricket. He was expected to get wickets for the Riders and stop the opposition by scoring runs but has failed to do so in the 4 matches he has played. In these 4 matches, Chawla has conceded 118 runs and picked up 3 wickets while bowling on an average of 39.33 and an economy rate of 9.07.
5. Yusuf Pathan (All-Rounder)
Yusuf Pathan is a very good all-rounder but has failed to play as per the expectations in this year’s IPL. He is known for his hard hitting and fast bowling but he has failed to do so except in one match where he scored 59 runs. In 14 matches, Yusuf Pathan has scored 143 runs at an average of 20.42 and at a strike rate of 125.43.
Pathan has bowled in few matches and has managed to pick up only 1 wicket while conceding 34 runs. His economy rate is 11.33 with an average of 34.00.
6. Virat Kohli (Batsman)
Virat Kohli has always been a consistent player for the nation as well as for RCB. This IPL season has been an exception though. The last season of IPL saw him score 973 runs in 16 matches but this year he has scored only 308 runs in 10 matches and that too at an average of 30.80 with a strike rate of 122.22. He is known as ‘Run Machine Kohli’ but he has been struggling to find his form this season.
7. Ab de Villiers (Batsman)
Ab is known for his 360-degree batting style. He has been playing shots and scoring runs all over the field. There is no corner in which Ab de Villiers has not scored runs. His shot selection is out of the box and has scored some brilliant shots. His game-play is such that no other batsman can play like him. But, this IPL hasn’t been the same for him. His stats for IPL 2017 are 9 matches scored 216 runs at an average of 27.00 and strike rate of 132.51.
8. Chris Gayle (Batsman)
Chris Gayle is a player who has had some of the best IPL seasons and has kept every bowler in a fear of his batting storm. This year we have failed to see the ‘Gayle Storm’. He also has been dropped out of the squad for a few matches. His stats for IPL 2017 are 200 runs in 9 matches at a strike rate of 122.69 and an average of 22.22.
9. Tymal Mills (Bowler)
Tymal Mills was the second highest paid player in this year’s auction. He was expected to perform well but he has performed the worst. Mills has conceded 153 runs and picked up 5 wickets in 5 matches. He has bowled with an average rate of 30.60 and economy rate of 8.57.
10. Shane Watson (All-Rounder)
Shane Watson started off this year as a captain of Royal Challengers Bangalore as Virat Kohli and Ab de Villiers were out for few matches due to injury. Looking at the stats for IPL Season 10, Shane Watson has played the worst season this year with the bat as well as the ball. With the bat, Watson has scored 71 runs in 8 matches and his best is 24. With the ball, he has picked up 5 wickets and conceded 245 runs at an average rate of 49.00 and economy rate of 9.13.
11. Ben Cutting (Bowler)
Ben Cutting is a tall, fast bowler. He has struggled to confirm his place in the playing XI for Sunrisers Hyderabad. Ben has picked up 1 wicket in 4 matches and has conceded 123 runs. He has bowled on an average rate of 123.00 and has an economy rate of 9.71. He has been pretty expensive and hence he was out the team for rest of the matches.
