Match Preview: Kings XI Punjab vs Kolkata Knight Riders

Kings XI need to win to stay alive and KKR need to win to qualify for the playoffs

Kings XI Punjab

Kings XI Punjab will be playing without Hashim Amla who has left for national duty. Amla is the only batsman who has scored two centuries in IPL 10. West-Indian all-rounder Darren Sammy will be likely replacing Amla in today’s encounter against Kolkata Knight Riders.

Skipper Glen Maxwell has struggled against KKR’s Umesh Yadav and Sunil Narine. It will be interesting to see what his gameplan will be against them today.

Martin Guptill and Shaun Marsh will have to shoulder the bulk of Punjab’s batting today.

Sandeep Sharma will need to get his game up against the explosive opening duo of Chris Lynn and Sunil Narine followed by Gautam Gambhir. Same goes for Axar Patel.

Kolkata Knight Riders

Wicketkeeper-batsman Robin Uthappa is still not fit is likely to miss today’s encounter. Sheldon Jackson will continue to play in absence of Uthappa.

Sunil Narine scored the fastest fifty in the previous match against Royal Challengers Bangalore. If he continues to play like that, this game should be a cakewalk for KKR. Then, there is his bowling to contend too as well.

KKR batting needs to have a collective seizure to not perform well. They have Chris Lynn, Sunil Narine, Skipper Gautam Gambhir and Manish Pandey to go out and make a statement.

Chris Woakes will continue to lead the KKR bowling attack due to the uncertainty over Nathan Coulter Nile’s fitness.
