Russian Man Faces Jail For Saying There is no God

A Russian man faces a potential prison term for denying the existence of God. Russia’s Investigative Committee has charged Victor Krasnov with “offending believers’ feelings”.

In 2014, Viktor Krasnov had written on social media site, “If I say that the collection of Jewish fairytales entitled the Bible is complete bullshit, that is that. At least for me,” Krasnov wrote, adding later “there is no God!”  One of the people involved in the social media dispute filed a complaint against Krasnov “offending the sentiments of Orthodox believers”.

“I don’t know how you can treat social networking posts seriously,””Looks like we need a law to protect atheists’ feelings too.”, said Krasnov according to, a prominent anti-government news website. Krasnov was forced to spend a year in psychiatric care before he was declared sane.

Krasnov’s lawyer told AFP that his client was “simply an atheist” and he had treated both “Halloween and Yiddish holidays” the same way. He is currently on trial in Stavropol in southern Russia.
