VIP convoys are a huge nuisance in the country with the amount of cops deployed to make sure the VIP (usually MPs and ministers) and their entourage sail through smoothly, never mind if the common man’s life is thrown out of gear. One such convoy has been responsible for taking away a man’s fighting chance at life.
In Bhopal, a 22 year old student was struck be a bus in front of the Vidhan Sabha. While he lay on the road, twisting and turning in pain, cops who had been deployed in the heavily guarded areas for the MP CM Shivraj Singh’s Chouhan’s convoy to pass by, merely lifted the injured youth and dumped him on the side of the road.
For 45 minutes, Vikas Prasad Soniya was squirming in pain, lying in a pool of his blood while the cops and passer-bys merely looked on. When an ambulance finally arrived, the trauma victim lay unattended for 20 minutes. The doctors then referred Vikas to Narmada Trauma Centre, where he died two hours later. Vikas had suffered head injuries after being hit by the bus and doctors failed to clear the blood entering his throat as the machine was not functional said his father who watched helplessly.
