The year is almost coming to an end and New Year parties are around the corner. Everyone is waiting for the year to end and hoping that 2017 is better. Although all the songs of 2016 make you feel nostalgic, it is time to look back at some that we are definitely not going to forget very easily. The year was great for Bollywood’s favorite singer, Arijit Singh. Almost every song that topped the chartbusters this year was sung by him; there were some other singers who made their way too.
Below is a list of songs from 2016 that we think were the best among the lot.
Ae Dil Hai Mushkil
Title track: No song other song than Aae Dil Hai Mushkil’s (ADHM) title track can describe and explain the feelings of a person who loves someone but isn’t loved back by the person. And the movie explains that it’s okay to not be loved back.
Artist: Arijit Singh
Breakup Song: This song won’t let you get upset over your heart break and instead get you in the mood to dance, and could even help you move on. Because, ‘Baby, tune jo kiya hai woh very very right hai.’
Artists: Arijit Singh, Badshah, Nakash Aziz and Jonita Gandhi
Bulleya: Bulleya was the song that made Ranbir’s character achieve what he wanted to in the world of music and that helped us achieve one of the best songs of 2016.
Artists: Shilpa Rao and Amit Mishra
Channa Mereya: No, Chris Martin did not make this song famous. He did steal our hearts though. Channa Mereya, though a target for few memes on the Internet, is actually a beautiful song with beautiful lyrics.
Artist: Arijit Singh
Pritam really did give us an ‘Album of the Year’ in the form of Aae Dil Hai Muskill.
Kar Gayi Chull: Does the ‘hook step’ of this song flash through your mind and you get the urge to do it just by seeing the name of the song? The whole mood captured in the video and the presence of Alia Bhatt and Siddharth Malhotra gives serious party goals to all.
Artists: Badhsah, Faizalpuria, Amaal Malik, Neha and Sukriti Kakkar
Let’s Nacho: It is another party anthem by Kapoor&Sons. Badshah is ruling Bollywood with his party tunes and he did it in this one too. This is a song that you’ll definitely hear in parties on the 31st and probably many more.
Artists: Badshah, Nenny Dayal, and Nuclyea
Bolna: Along with two hip songs, this movie also gave us a song with romantic feels.
Artists: Tanishk Bagchi, Arijit Singh, and Anees Kaur
Nashe Si Chhad Gayi: Even though it has some French lyrics in the beginning that are difficult to pronounce, almost everyone tries to sing this song. The moves by Ranveer and Vaani are thunderous and electrifying.
Artist- Arijit Singh.
Ude Dil Befikre: Though Befikre did not do so well at the box office, its two songs are enough to leave an impact on our minds.
Artist- Benny Dayal.
Dil Chheez Tujhe De Di: The entire setup of this song screams of rich Arabic culture and is a romantic dance number. The music is hooked onto our minds since January 2016.
Artists: Arijit Singh and Ankit Tiwari
Soch Naa Sake: This romantic number between Akshay Kumar and Nimrit Kaur is beautiful beyond words and rocked the music chartbusters for months after its release.
Artists: Arijit Singh, Tulsi Kumar, and Amaal Malik.
Sanam Teri Kasam
Tu Kheench Meri Photo: Admit it, even if people found this song annoying, no one could stop from singing it if they heard it playing somewhere. The movie released and disappeared but this song is here to stay for some years.
Artists: Neeti Mohan, Darshan Rawal and Akasa Singh
Baar Baar Dekho
Kala Chashma: Who knew that the remake of an old song could rock the charts? Okay, everyone knew that. But Kala Chashma’s remake is much better than the other rip-offs of old songs. Katrina Kaif and Siddharth Malhotra absolutely nailed the music video.
Artists: Neha Kakkar, Badshah and Amar Arshi
Sau Aasman: This is purely a holiday song. Just pack your bags, and drive or fly away. It is all about romance, fun and gives such a ‘beachy’ vibe because of the video.
Artists: Neeti Mohan and Amaal Malik.
Nachde Ne Saare: The new ‘shaadi’ song is going to be ‘THE’ song for many years to come. Like shown in the movie, it is a perfect song for families to dance together.
Artists: Jasleen R, Hardeep K, and Siddharth MD
Lo Maan Liya: Even if Bhatt franchise isn’t doing well on the Box Office, they have never disappointed with their music. Emraan Hasmi + Bhatt Ji’s films = great music!
Lo Maan Liya is an example of that along with ‘Yaad Hai Naa’.
Artist: Arijit Singh
Baby Ko Bass Pasand Hai: Even if it’s not about a toddler or bass, like the music kind, it is still catchy. And also, the dance moves.
Artists: Vishal Dadlani, Badshah, Shalmali Kholgate, and Isheeta.
Jag Ghumeya: Another song, another controversy. While Arijit Singh was originally supposed to sing the song, The makers eventually went with Rahat Fateh Ali Khan. This is the song where Salman Khan is expressing his love for lady love Anushka Sharma while they were on a break. The song would have been as great as it is even if it wasn’t sung by Rahat sahab.
Artist: Rahat Fateh Ali Khan
Haanikaarak Bapu: The movie has just released and the song is on the playlists of many. Every child, who has or had a strict father, can relate to the song and can laugh about it.
Artist: Sarwar Khan and Sartaz Khan Barna
Aafreen Aafreen: Originally, this song came out two decades ago, which was sung by Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan sahab, and in 2016, it was reinvented in Coke Studio. It remained magical as ever and became a favorite all over again.
Artists: Rahat Fateh Ali Khan and Momina Musteshan
